Sibusiso Yokwana is a molecular ecologist with a background in genetics, biodiversity monitoring, and environmental DNA (eDNA) research. He holds an MSc in Zoology (Population Genetics), where he investigated the genetic stock structure of Pachymetopon aeneum using microsatellite markers. He is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Cape Town, focusing on the DNA metabarcoding of airborne fungal spores and pollen across South African biomes.
His work spans across freshwater, marine, and airborne environmental samples, reflecting his adaptability and interdisciplinary focus. He is part of the SA-CARES project, contributing to the implementation of molecular tools for aeroallergen monitoring. His current research integrates aeroallergen bioinformatics and public health relevance. He is passionate about making biodiversity data more accessible and useful for clinicians, researchers and policymakers.
