Professor Neumann, a geologist and palynologist at North-West University, is involved in the SAPNET (South African Pollenmonitoring Network) since 2019. He leads research on airborne pollen and fungal spores, linking them to allergic responses, weather and land cover patterns. His team conducts spore trapping and skin prick allergy testing in urban centres, including Potchefstroom and Vanderbijlpark. Through interdisciplinary studies, Neumann contributes to public health by mapping aeroallergen trends in the form of pollen calendars and allergy risk maps and raising awareness of environmental triggers of allergic diseases.
