Claudia Gray is a paediatrician with sub-specialist accreditation in allergology and paediatric pharmacology. She undertook her medical degree at the University of Cape Town, specialised in London, and subsequently returned to South African soil to undertake a PhD and work in the field of allergology.
Claudia is a part-time consultant at the Allergy and Asthma clinic at Red Cross Children’s Hospital, and an Associate Professor in Paediatrics at the University of Cape Town. Her research interests are in allergy pharmacology, and in food allergies in eczema patients, on which she based her PhD. She also works in a cutting-edge private allergy centre in Cape Town. On the side she is currently busy with a healthcare management MBA.
Claudia thoroughly enjoys teaching and presents regularly at local and international conferences. She has over 100 publications in local as well as international high-impact international journals. She is on the editorial team of the journal Current Allergy and Clinical Immunology and co-editor/co-author of the 2017 and 2025 South African Allergy Handbooks and has written the book Food Allergies in a Nutshell. She is also the author of several children’s books, having a passion for educating/enlightening the young.
Claudia sits on several international allergy committees, including the EAACI food allergy guidelines committee and the European Forum for Research and Education in Allergy and Airway Diseases (EUFOREA) expert committee.
