Andrew Boulle is a South African public health physician with the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness in South Africa, and Professor of Public Health Medicine at the University of Cape Town. His teaching and research have been predominantly focused on infectious disease epidemiology and local and collaborative HIV/TB cohort studies, and his service work on systems development for priority health conditions.
He has helped establish data centres for both collaborative cohort studies and for routine health information (the Western Cape Provincial Health Data Centre and Health Information Exchange), a Pregnancy Exposure and Birth Defects Surveillance registry, and more recently a Health and Demographic Surveillance Site.
He is passionate about the harmonisation and consolidation of routine health data to improve health services, and on leveraging population based research initiatives to catalyze the improvement of health information systems.
