Dr Sylvia van den Berg is a Clinical Pathologist at Ampath Laboratories and currently serves as Head of the Immunology Laboratory at the Ampath National Reference Laboratory in Pretoria. She has been based at Ampath’s National Reference Laboratory in the Department of Clinical Immunology since 2010. In addition, she has served as an Extraordinary Lecturer at the University of Pretoria, affiliated with the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, since January 2016. In this role, she contributes to the Paediatric Primary Immunodeficiency Clinic and provides lectures in Immunology to both undergraduate medical students, postgraduate trainees and clinicians.

She has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals and remains involved in academic research. Dr van den Berg is also a member of several national and international professional societies, including the Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA), the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), and Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases South Africa (PIDDSA).
