Dr. Alex van Blydenstein is a pulmonologist based at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is currently completing herPhD, which focuses on the clinical manifestations of patients with hypoxaemic COVID-19 — a topic of critical importance during and beyond the pandemic.

With a strong interest in respiratory physiology and critical care, Dr van Blydenstein has contributed to the field through both clinical work and academic research. She has authored/co-authored 30 peer-reviewed publications to date.

She remains passionate about advancing the understanding of respiratory illnesses in resource-constrained settings and continues to advocate for evidence-based, patient-centered care.
